Workshops

I would be delighted to visit your school, library, or other venues for storytelling and writing workshops with children. Please contact me for further information and bookings.

Een Vogel op de Vlucht/ A Myna Miracle

Ages: 3-9 years old. Duration: 1 - 1,5 hours

An interactive retelling of the story of Juji, a brave little songbird from Afghanistan. When his best friend Alia has to flee her country, Juji travels with her. Until they lose each other. Juji ends up with a kind man in a new and unfamiliar country. Juji misses everything he knew: the purple flowers, the cherry tree... and especially Alia. Yet he discovers that there are people (and birds!) all over the world who want to help. Slowly, Juji finds his voice again.

After the reading session, the children will have the opportunity to make their own bird puppet and compose                                                                                their own song together with their bird.

A Sheep Called Skye

Ages: 6 -12 years old. Duration: 1 - 1,5 hours

Do you sometimes feel different from others? This workshop explores this theme in depth through a story about a sheep called Skye. Skye never knew her mother, grew up in an Airbnb and, deep down, doesn't feel like a sheep at all. She longs for a place where sheep like her can feel at home. So she sets off on a journey of discovery. Until she discovers a big secret, a secret that will turn her whole life upside down.

After the interactive reading session, which can be accompanied by music provided by Erik Van Hove, the children are given the opportunity to create their own sheep, invent their own story about their sheep and learn how to tell their story.

Slightly older children are given the chance to think more deeply about what home means to them, using a number of fun thinking and drawing exercises.
